Markus Fromherz
Vice President, Director of Intelligent Systems Laboratory, Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)

Dr. Markus Fromherz directs PARC's ISL research organization, which focuses on research and development in cognitive science, user interfaces, intelligent image recognition, natural language processing, and intelligent reasoning for embedded systems.

Fromherz is a Principal Engineer at PARC. He has led and contributed to several research, development, and technology transfer efforts in intelligent control systems for Xerox products, including the award-winning flagship iGen3™ digital production printing system.

Fromherz' research interests in the domain of intelligent embedded software include constraint-based modeling; model-based planning, scheduling, and control; and model-based design analysis and optimization. He has authored or co-authored over 35 articles published in scientific journals and conferences; presented over 17 invited talks; and has more than 40 issued and pending patents.

Fromherz joined PARC in 1992. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science (1991) from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and his M.S. in Computer Science (1987) from ETH Zurich.
