Mike Roberts is a Principal in PARC's Contextual Intelligence area, where he architects and manages projects in the area of contextual intelligence, such as PARC's Contextual Intelligence Platform (CIP) and Contextual Agents projects. Previously, he worked on a number of advanced virtual and augmented reality projects including the collaboration server architecture used in the PARC/Motorola/IPS "Entervise" product and the backend architecture for the DNP-PARC "Magitti" mobile recommender system. His current interests include smart machines, advanced user interfaces for contextually aware applications, virtual and augmented reality, and scalable cloud-based distributed systems for the real-time web.
Prior to coming to PARC, Mike worked with number of new media and entertainment/game companies, including Perpetual Entertainment and UrStudios, where he was Chief Technology Officer and architect of the GEL distributed virtual reality system. At Progress Software, he managed Progress's Graphical User Interface Technology Group, working on visual programming systems based on his previous work art MediaShare, Inc. He has contributed to a number of pieces of commercial software, including Entervise, DNP's Machireko, Autodesk’s Kinetix Hyperwire, and GEL and is known as a pioneer in node-based content development systems.
Dr. Roberts obtained his Ph.D. from London’s City University, where he worked in the area of parallel computing, visual programming, and graph theory.
