PROFILE:

Jianqiang Shen

Jianqiang Shen has extensive research experience in machine learning, speech recognition, context-aware intelligent systems, and automatic language scoring systems. He is currently working on developing context-aware smartphone middleware for military unit operations and intelligent algorithms to detect behavior of malicious agents inside of an organization.

Before joining PARC’s contextual intelligence/ ubicomp research area, Jianqiang was a senior research scientist at Pearson Education working on automated foreign language assessment tests. He has been involved in several successful projects by applying machine learning techniques to help real users. Prior to joining Pearson, Jianqiang was the leading designer and developer of the activity recognition components for an intelligent task management system TaskTracer, which led to multiple patent applications and a start-up, SmartDesktop (later acquired by EMC). When he worked at IBM Research, Jianqiang successfully built a recommender system for managing everyday information.

Dr. Shen earned his Ph.D. degree from Oregon State University and his M.E. and B.S. degrees from Nanjing University.
