Yong Zhang’s research has been focused on the development of additive manufacturing technologies, design and fabrication of microdevices, and microrobotic manipulation. His current projects include printed methane sensor networks, assembly of microchips and particles, and printing of smart objects.
Prior to joining PARC, Yong was a Research Engineer at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he developed direct-write methods based on electrodeposition to fabricate high-aspect-ratio metal structures. During his postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he developed a transfer-printing technique for the assembly of microsensors and actuators.
Yong received a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Toronto, and an M.S. and B.S. in mechatronics engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology.
