PROFILE:
Ed H. Chi
Ed H. Chi manages PARC's newly defined "Augmented Social Cognition" research and team, which aims to understand the underlying mechanisms in online social systems such as Wikipedia and social tagging sites. Ed's most well-known project is the study of Information Scent -- understanding how users navigate and understand information environments such as the Web. He has also worked on information visualization, computational molecular biology, ubicomp, and recommendation/search engines.
Ed has been conducting research in human-computer interaction and social computing tools for over 15 years. He has been featured and quoted in the Economist, Time Magazine, LA Times, Associated Press, and more.
Ed earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. (in 6.5 years) from the University of Minnesota. He has 19 patents and published over 50 research articles. In his spare time, Ed is an avid Taekwondo martial artist, photographer, and snowboarder.
