Sustainability Fellowship
Invent a sustainable future

PARC scientist Dave Fork helped envision a novel CPV solution that makes affordable solar power a reality...

PARC invites highly qualified students to apply to our new "Sustainability Fellowship" program – and transform ideas for a sustainable world into reality.

Benefits

A Sustainability Fellow will have the opportunity to:

  • propose and pursue a project idea;
  • be mentored by leading scientists;
  • experience PARC's highly collaborative, multidisciplinary culture;
  • draw on PARC resources/tools;
  • share results through publications, patents, meetings, and poster sessions; and
  • help create potential business opportunities.

Fellowships are paid, and last about 3 months, typically during the summer. PARC will provide roundtrip transportation and limited relocation assistance upon arrival, though students are responsible for finding their own housing and ongoing transportation. Eligibility & Application Process

Graduate-level students – including international students – may apply. The Sustainability Fellow will be selected based on his/her qualifications and alignment with PARC innovation areas.

Students will be asked to submit (only through our online form): (1) a detailed resume; and (2) a brief, high-level overview of a proposed project that addresses a specific sustainability issue or need. The proposed project should not be fully developed, but applicants should think about a project goal manageable within 12 weeks. The project overview should also be general enough to be understood by someone unfamiliar with the topic. We will conduct follow-up telephone interviews.

About the Sustainability Fellowship

People at PARC are passionate about engaging in sustainable practices and applying technology toward positive environmental and social change. The Sustainability Fellowship intersects these two passions.

  • Engaging in sustainable practices. Some sustainable practices PARC engages in include: an award-winning Alternative Transportation Program that provides financial incentives to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles commuting to work; an advanced reduce-reuse-recycle program that educates employees; a cross-organizational "Green Team" that focuses operational efforts; and a commitment to reducing CO2 emissions.

  • Applying technology toward change. PARC launched a comprehensive cleantech innovation program in February 2005. As part of this program, scientists are harnessing deep, multidisciplinary competencies to address problems too complex to solve within a single domain of expertise. Current innovation areas include solar energy; clean water; adaptive energy control; carbon-neutral fuels; and re-usable media for printing.

The Sustainability Fellowship, along with the above programs, began as a grassroots initiative by dedicated employees. PARC reduces its own carbon footprint where possible, and then offsets the remainder, by funding this unique fellowship program. The goal is to support education – by devoting those same offset funds to help invent a sustainable future.
