ABSTRACT: Electronic tagging technologies are becoming more cost effective every year. In a world in which computer automation is touching every aspect of our daily work practice, automatic identification of arbitary things (people, cars, coffee mugs) is a key technology to support these systems. This presentation will discuss the properties of electronic tags both now and the possibilities for the future. One day everything that is manufactured may contain a machine readable tag. The implications for privacy and authenticity will be the main focus for our discussion.
