This paper describes the implications of an innovative water treatment system that can be scaled up to
address emerging issues in water sustainability. A companion paper addresses the technology and
water quality metrics using this novel pre-treatment system for seawater RO. The compactness and
modularity allows for flexible implementation. A conceptual design for a 20 MGD installation is
described. Corresponding cost and space benefits are computed from best estimates drawn from two
reliable references which show significant reductions in both.
