In this talk, I will discuss a subclass of Distributed computing, namely tightly coupled clustering, and Oracle clustering technology. In the industry it has been referred by Clustering, Grid and lately private clouds.

I will cover the following Items:

  • The reason for the architecture
  • The benefits
  • The system issues that must be addressed
  • Open issues

Angelo Pruscino  is an Oracle Senior Vice President in the Parallel and Storage management team responsible for Real Application Cluster, Automatic Storage Management, Cloud File Systems, clustering Infrastructure and Autonomic stuff.

He graduated with a master degree in Applied Mathematics from New York University. He was a developer and architect for MVS in IDM Poughkeepsie laboratory, specializing in Cluster, Caching and Global Serialization issues. He moved to Sun Microsystem to work on cluster technology and joined Oracle in 1998 as an Architect. He has been leading the Parallel and Storage management team since 1999. The focus of his work at Oracle has been the ability to combine both availability and horizontal scalability for both custom and packaged applications. Lately the focus has shifted to manageability and autonomic computing. The product has been very successful with tens of thousands of customers.
