about PARC forum

The ability to image and measure on a small scale, whether it be the microscale or nanoscale, is fundamental to a broad range of industrial and research applications in information technology, advanced materials and biotechnology. AngstroVision, Inc. has developed a fundamentally new technology that for the first time allows the real-time acquisition of high-resolution 3-D video images from the nano-world. The data gathered is metrologically accurate, and can be acquired non destructively at a long working distance in a wide range of environments without requiring any preparation of samples. This new capability will allow AngstroVision to dominate many application areas and to significantly impact the development of the nanotechnology field overall. AngstroVision's technology uses interferometry in a novel way to achieve the performance characteristics described above. The current prototype captures data at 30 frames per second at a resolution of 4 nm in the vertical dimension and 12 nm in the lateral dimensions, providing an effective imaging rate of 1-3 frames per second. The system resolution is adjustable and depending on magnification can produce a field of view from 5 µm2 to 1 mm2. Depth of field varies from 1 µm to several mm. AngstroVision anticipates that it will rapidly make substantial additional improvements in system performance.
