about PARC forum

description

I have two audiences for my talk. First is people who do software as part of their research. I will tell folks listening from this perspective how I've learned to refine my craft. To try to make sense of my sometimes-non-sensical conclusions I'll make reference to a variety of other disciplines, in particular lean manufacturing. The second audience I will talk to are those who work to facilitate collaborative software development. I'll report what I've experienced and observed, and present as challenges the way XP stresses physical, communication, and programming infrastructure.

presenter(s)

Kent Beck is the founder and director of TRI. He has pioneered patterns for software development, the xUnit family of testing frameworks, the HotDraw drawing editor framework, CRC cards, refactoring, and most recently Extreme Programming. He is the author of Extreme Programming Explained, Planning Extreme Programming, and The Smalltalk Best Practice Patterns. He lives on 20 acres in rural southern Oregon with his wife, five children (one sadly now gone to college), four dogs, two sheep, and a variable number of domestic fowl.
