The force.com multitenant architecture: understanding the design of salesforce.com’s internet application development platform
Force.com is the preeminent on-demand application development platform in use today, supporting 47,000+ organizations. Individual enterprises and commercial software-as-a-service(Saas) vendors trust the platform to deliver robust, reliable, Internet-scale applications. To meet the extreme demands of its large user populations, Force.com's foundation is a metadata-driven software architecture that enables multitenant applications. Todd's talk will explain the technology that makes the Force.com platform fast, scalable, and secure for any type of applications.
Todd's experience focuses on software development and design of web scale services. From 1995 to 2003, Todd worked at PeopleSoft in the PeopleTools group building the underlying platform for the PeopleSoft applications. During this time, he served as an engineer, technical lead and engineering manager for various areas of the product.
Since 2003, Todd has worked at Salesforce.com leading the engineering, user interface design, documentation and localization teams. Under Todd's leadership, the team has grown from 15 to over 250 people all while the Salesforce.com service has grown from 3 million transactions per day to over 150 million with industry leading performance and reliability.
Todd has a BS degree from Brigham Young University in Business and an MS degree in Computer Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Todd is a Bay Area native and currently lives in San Francisco with his wife Roxanne and daughter Julia. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and basketball.
