Post-doctoral Research Staff, Electronic Materials and Devices
The Electronic Materials & Devices Laboratory is a group of physicists, material scientists, electrical engineers, and chemists who have demonstrated a history of innovation in the areas of thin-film transistors, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), and optoelectronics. Current research is focused primarily on printed electronics, MEMS, displays, amorphous and polycrystalline silicon systems, x-ray imaging, acoustic imaging, optoelectronic semiconductors, visible and UV lasers and LEDs, optical detection systems, and bio-medical instrumentation. Our staff enjoys the opportunity to publish externally and engage in strategic research with a variety of partners, from start-ups to the Fortune 50.
EMDL currently has two openings for post-doctoral scientists in the areas of III-V semiconductors, lasers and LEDs, optical detection systems, and optical systems.
Technical areas of current projects include the following:
- Gallium nitride materials growth, optical emitter design, and characterization:
- Metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD)
- InGaAlN semiconductors
- Design of laser diodes and light-emitting diodes
- Materials and device characterization
- Optical detection systems:
- Optical detection techniques and technologies
- Design and development of opto-fluidic instruments
- Optical sensors for physical-bio-chemical properties
- Optical detection systems for structural health monitoring and bio-medical instrumentation
- Optical systems:
- Laser scanning systems
- High-power-laser systems
- Beam steering systems
- PV energy harvesting
- VCSEL arrays and systems
Candidates with interests and proposals for new directions in optoelectronic R&D are encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. with a strong research background demonstrating innovation and relevant contributions towards their field. Direct experience in one of the specific research topics is important. With an appropriate level of experience and accomplishment, a candidate may be considered for a regular appointment as a Member of the Research Staff.
how to apply
To apply for this position upload: a cover letter describing a significant, recent project, your role in it, and the names of 3 references; a resume; and copies of 3 recent publications. If you wish to propose a new direction in optoelectronics, please substitute a proposal for one of the publications. Each of the 5 uploaded documents may not exceed 1.5 MB.
