Ethnography Researcher/Practitioner/Project Manager
We seek practicing ethnographers who can lead a growing set of ethnography projects for our commercial customers in Japan. The positions will be based in Japan and will work closely with our U.S.-based ethnography group to import methodologies and practices.
Responsibilities:
- Design and conduct ethnographic studies for commercial customers
- Ensure client commitments are addressed and deliverables are of top quality
- Establish and build relationships with client project sponsors
- Conduct regular project reviews
- Provide business expertise and direction to projects
- Manage customer expectations and changes to scope or project direction
- Work with business development to support the closing of new deals and follow-on projects
- Work with business development and researchers with interdisciplinary background to design and develop marketable ethnographic services
- Work with marketing to generate sales and marketing materials for ethnographic services
- Helping recruit bilingual (Japanese/English) ethnographers to staff the projects, as needed
Requirements:
- 3 years experience in conducting ethnographic studies or the delivery of ethnographic services for corporate customers globally
- Strong competency in using a wide range of ethnographic methods in business settings, including use of video for data collection, analysis, and reporting
- The ability to lead projects
- The ability to present work effectively and persuasively
- Ability to travel extensively
- Japanese and English language/cultural fluency
Desirable experience include:
- Expertise in ethnomethodology, interaction analysis and behavioral analysis
- Expertise in human-computer interaction research, qualitative & quantitative data analysis, user experience design
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience, MBA or equivalent experience a plus
