a visualization tool for providing social transparency and dynamics for Wikipedia
WHAT: a visualization and interaction tool on top of Wikipedia that can help users understand the social dynamics of the article-editing process
WHY: to increase credibility and trust in Wikipedia article content by providing transparency and enabling attribution of work to actual editors of the wiki pages
HOW: by embedding visualizations of specific article- (and user-) editing patterns that anyone can see; the tool provides an up-to-date view of controversies and edit wars by working with live Wikipedia data
IMPACT: in 2 different user studies, people using WikiDashboard demonstrated increased trust in page content
APPLICATIONS: Social Dashboard technology that increases social transparency of collaboratively edited content and enables content attribution to individual editors -- in enterprises, such attribution may increase not only participation but also information quality
