Dan Davies explores the levels of software optimization that are appropriate in commercialization of research. He also pursues research in novel technologies, like GPUs, in the context of traditional AI problems and data mining. Dan’s background includes extensive experience in low level optimization of algorithms using vector instruction sets and a focus on image processing and analysis. Since 1979 he has held several positions leading teams and design engineering for Xerox, including the development of a large image processing toolkit that is currently used in products. Most recently, Dan optimized software for production printer controllers in the FreeFlow Print Server group at Xerox. Dr. Davies earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and his B.S. in Engineering from John Hopkins University. He is the inventor of 18 patents.
