Employee Role: Scientist
Norman Shi works in the Electronics Materials and Devices laboratory, where he is currently developing photonic technologies towards applications in biomedical detection systems, and energy monitoring and management. Prior to joining PARC, Norman worked as an optical/device characterization engineer in the solar and storage industries. For his graduate thesis, he studied optical and thermal properties of insects living in harsh thermal environments, and developed biomimetic nanophotonic devices for waveguiding and radiative cooling applications. Dr. Shi holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Columbia University and a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering and a minor in Energy and Resources from UC Berkeley. He is a recipient of the Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Research Fellowship, and the National Science Foundation Optics and Quantum Electronics IGERT Fellowship.
