Krishnan Thyagarajan

Krishnan Thyagarajan is a research scientist in the Hardware Systems Laboratory (HSL) at PARC. His field of expertise lies in the physics and materials science of nanophotonic systems. Currently, he is engaged in applied electromagnetics research for applications including in the biomedical, clean energy and optical devices sectors. His other areas of interest include biomimetic systems, energy harvesting and scavenging devices and augmented reality interfaces.

Before joining PARC, Krishnan was an SNSF postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pasadena,  working in the area of optical metasurfaces for active light-matter interaction for different applications including beam steering and ultra-low-power optical modulators.

Krishnan holds a Ph.D. in Photonics and a Master's degree in Physics from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, and a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Physics from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, India. Apart from scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, Krishnan is also a reviewer for journals of the American Physical Society (APS), American Chemical Society (ACS), Optical Society of America (OSA), IEEE, Wiley and Springer. 

When not pursuing science, he can be seen out in nature, writing or playing music.
