PROFILE:

Kate Murphy

Kate Murphy is a Member of Research Staff in the Hardware Systems Laboratory. Her current research focuses on innovative materials deposition systems for additive manufacturing, including co-extrusion of battery electrodes and molten polymer spray. More broadly, she is interested in multi-material 3D printing and clean energy systems.

Prior to joining PARC, Kate worked for ABB Corporate Research where she invented new manufacturing techniques for various polymer and polymer composite materials. This involved injection molding and extrusion for producing ultra-strong and creep resistant parts, as well as 3D printing of electrically insulating materials.

Dr. Murphy holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Her graduate research concentrated on the coupling between mechanical strain and thermal transport in semiconductor nanomaterials.
