Biomedical Technology at PARC

Successful development of biomedical technology often requires close collaboration between medical professionals and technologists. In its biomedical program, PARC has assembled a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop technology for medical applications in collaboration with colleagues at The Scripps Research Institute, Stanford University and other healthcare institutions. The technology addresses problems in proteomic research and drug discovery as well as glucose, prenatal and cancer diagnostics. For drug discovery, we developed an array of nanocalorimeters to characterize compound-target reactions. Laser printing technology has been extended to locate rare tumor and fetal cells in blood samples to provide prenatal and cancer diagnostics. We have developed a new minimally invasive device for glucose detection, that is based on optical interferometry is being developed.
