Energy storage and solar power – The crucial role of storage in enabling renewable energy

The intermittent and variable nature of wind power and solar power, arguably, prevent renewable energy sources from serving as true "baseload" dispatchable power.   A range of technologies exist that are capable of storing energy -- from pumped hydro to compressed air energy storage to integrated-cell batteries to flow batteries to supercapacitors to flywheels and more.

Investors, startups, large corporations, and policy makers are focused on advancing energy storage to enable faster adoption of renewables and to meet Renewable Portfolio Standards.  This evening's panel at the Silicon Valley PV Society will look at some of the pressing technology, business and policy issues confronting energy storage.
