Exploring and Programming Modular Reconfigurable Robotics (Tutorial)

Full-Day Tutorial at IEEE/RSJ International Conference of Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2003); TM1, LV7

Monday, October 27, 2003

8:00 am – 5:00

Peek inside the world of modular reconfigurable robots.

This is the first time this hands on workshop is available outside of the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). A full day course experimenting and programming robots will introduce you to the various types of modular robots, designing a project and presenting your design.

Interested in modular reconfigurable robots? Curious how modular robots are programmed? Want to create functional systems? The research team from PARC, led by Dr. Mark Yim, will train the first thirty people who sign up.

The PARC Team of experienced researchers:

  • Ying Zhang, Software Architecture
  •

  • Craig Eldershaw, Polybot Software
  •

  • Kimon Roufas, Polybot Electronics
  •

  • Dave Duff, Polybot Mechanics

Experience with Java programming or any other language is desirable, but not required.

Topics include:

  1. Modular Reconfigurable Robotics, in General
  2. The PolyBot Series: Design and Capabilities
  3. The PolyBot Simulation Environment
  4. The PolyBot Programming Environment

The tutorial will include ample time to work on a project to be shown in a demonstration or competition at a public presentation at the end of the day.

LAPTOPS MAY BE NEEDED.
