Security and Privacy in Named Data Networking (NDN)

Network use has evolved to be dominated by content distribution and retrieval, while networking technology still speaks only of connections between hosts. NDN, as one of the four projects being funded by NSF Future Internet Architecture Program, investigates a new Internet architecture to fundamentally change that by naming data instead of their location. NDN transforms data into a first-class entity and decouples location from identity, security and Access. This enables several radically scalable and resilient communication mechanisms such as in-network caching and multi-path routing. However, it also introduces various technical challenges that must be addressed to validate NDN as a future Internet architecture. This talk will provide brief introduction to NDN architecture, discuss major security challenges we have faced during its design (e.g., network security, content protection and privacy) and explain how we approach them.
