Printed Gas Sensors
Printed Gas Sensors
We are leveraging print manufacturing to develop a new paradigm for gas sensing that will achieve state-of-the-art methane detection and measurement performance at ultra-low cost.
Natural gas is an important part of our energy supply. There are more than 1 million oil and gas wells in North America and greater than 1.5 million miles of natural gas pipeline in the U.S. Methane, the principal component of natural gas, is a 30 times more potent global warming force than CO2, yet scalable, cost effective leak detection technologies are unavailable. We are developing a low-power, low-cost fugitive methane detection system that has been demonstrated to successfully identify the locations of methane leaks in blind testing. The methane detection system is based on sensor array foils containing multiple printed modified carbon nanotube sensor elements, together with supporting electronics.
