Open services innovation: Rethinking your business to grow and compete in a new era
The advanced industrialized countries have economies that have moved from agriculture to manufacturing to services. Innovation has now got to transform along with these shifts. Innovation in services is not quite the same process as it is in technologies and products. This talk will discuss the challenges for innovation in services, the need for openness, and the subsequent transformation of business models that a services focus entails.
Henry Chesbrough is the Executive Director of the Center for Open Innovation at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He is the author of Open Innovation (which was named a Best Business Book by Strategy & Business magazine and the best book on innovation on NPR’s All Things Considered) and Open Business Models (which was named one of the ten best books on innovation by BusinessWeek). Scientific American magazine named Henry one of the top 50 technology and business leaders.
Henry's research focuses on managing technology and innovation. Previously, he was an assistant professor of business administration, and the Class of 1961 Fellow at the Harvard Business School. Prior to embarking on an academic career, Henry spent ten years in various product planning and strategic marketing positions in Silicon Valley companies. He worked for seven of those years at Quantum Corporation, a leading hard disk drive manufacturer and a Fortune 500 company, and also worked at Bain and Company.
Henry holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of California-Berkeley, an MBA from Stanford University, and a BA from Yale University, summa cum laude.
