We argue in this position paper that although recent technological developments have begun to provide the machinery to make secure mashups possible, they have underestimated the challenges involved in making that security usable. By considering the requirements posed by potentially multi-step secure mashups in the context of the security and usability failures of todays much simpler web applications, we can see how hard this problem will be.
