Efficiency Improvements of Ultraviolet Emitters to Facilitate Communications in Contested Environments

Efficiency improvements of UV emitters is a significant step in the development of hybrid multi-modal communications systems capable of adapting to and overcoming complex and contested environments. The radiative lifetime in AlGaN quantum well structures is studied using time-resolved photoluminescence and compared with the results of a unique many-body model. Results suggest that semi-polar AlGaN heterostructures provide a clear path towards more energy efficient UV communications.
