Flexible electrophoretic displays were fabricated using an all-additive solution-processed active-matrix backplane. An inkjet printing process deposits the conductor and the organic semiconductor for the pixel transistors. The pixel circuits have a resolution of 37 ppi and 74 ppi and the implications with decreasing the pixel size in printed backplanes are discussed. Novel approaches for printed multi-layer pixel designs are presented.
