This chapter motivates and introduces the situation model as tool for describing an augmented environment, its users and their activities. The situation model connects the perceptual components with the services of an augmented environment by providing an intuitive declarative description language for human activity in the scene. Three example situation models that have been realized within CHIL are presented in this chapter and illustrate how situation models can be implemented and used in practice. These examples include a lecture scenario implementation, meeting state detection and interaction group detection.
