PROFILE:
Simon Barber
An expert in wireless networking, Simon Barber is currently focused on wireless and content networking. Simon was also the lead architect for PowerCloud Systems, a spinout founded and incubated at PARC that offers cloud-based network management.
Before joining PARC, Simon founded Devicescape Software Inc., a provider of advanced Wi-Fi software solutions for mobile devices, and helped start Ozmo Devices Inc., a provider of efficient Wi-Fi compatible technologies for wireless personal area network (WPAN) connectivity for battery-operated devices. Prior to these companies, Simon worked in multimedia – including building early large-scale VoIP gateways and creating the video server for the world's first digital video on-demand network.
Simon earned his Master's degree from the University of Cambridge in the U.K. He has authored 6 patents. In addition to serving as the co-technical editor for the IEEE 802.11 standard, Simon also initiated the IEEE's 802.11k and 802.11z amendments.
